Some Community Service Projects by Individual Colonies/Chapters
Many of our individual colonies and chapters participate in community service projects on a local level. Alpha Psi Kappa take much pride in how we have expanded in our various communities. We have become well known and continue to grow in reputation as we do in numbers.
Adopt-A-Highway - Delta & Sigma Chapters
Since 1990, the Adopt-A-Highway program has been one of the most successful programs in combating litter along our nations highways ever enacted. Members of the Delta Chapter in South Carolina and Sigma Chapter in Petersburg, Virginia, in cooperation with their state Department of Transportation, believe this program is a great way to contribute to a healthier environment and beautification their state.
AssistHers - Tau Colony
AssistHers is a volunteer organization formed in 1996 to provide non-medical in-home support and care to lesbians with illnesses such as Cancer, Fibromyalgia, HIV/AIDS and Multiple Sclerosis. Volunteers work together to provide transportation, companionship, yard work, and non-medical care to help clients remain in their own homes versus a care facility.
New Directions Behavioral Health Care - Pi Colony
New Directions is a dually licensed Substance Abuse Treatment and Mental Health Program. It is a community-centered program providing clinical services to adults and their families who are challenged with the disease of addiction and mental illness. NDBHC is staffed with licensed professionals including Board Certified Psychiatrists, Master Level Clinicians, Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Social Workers, and others. The program offers the following services: Anger Management, Parenting Skills, Vocational Training, Family Counseling, and Family Violence Counseling.
Aids Volunteers of Cincinnati- Upsilon Colony
AIDS Volunteers of Cincinnati, Inc. (AVOC) was founded in 1983 in response to the first AIDS related death in the Cincinnati area. As the number of HIV challenged grew so did AVOC's services. AVOC’s Mission is to fight HIV/AIDS through education, services, and compassionate care, one person at a time. AVOC volunteers ease the struggle for those challenged by HIV/AIDS, and make a real difference in their lives. Knowledgeable volunteers help educate the community thereby increasing support for people with AIDS and reducing the spread of HIV infection.
